Malacostegina is a sub-order under order Cheilostomata. The structure of the individual zooids is generally simple, with an uncalcified, flexible frontal wall. It includes the earliest known cheilostome, the genus Pyriporopsis (Electridae).
The genus Christinella is currently incertae sedis within the Malacostegina.
